The Eras Tour (Rise Version): A Day of Connection, Creativity, and Collaboration
On Friday, 18th October, Rise Multi Academy Trust hosted a uniquely memorable Teacher Inset Day with an inspired twist: The Eras Tour (Rise Version). Held at St Peter and St Paul’s Primary School in Syston, the event brought together over 200 staff members from our 26 schools, merging professional development with a unique sense of community and creativity inspired by Taylor Swift’s legendary tour. It was a day filled with music, team spirit, and a bit of sparkle—all under the welcoming roof of St Peter and St Paul’s.
One of the highlights was an engaging keynote workshop led by Gary Aubin, Head of Special Educational Needs at the Education Endowment Foundation. With his vast experience in evidence-based teaching strategies, Gary shared valuable insights in a session titled "High Impact Teaching and SEND: We Found the Evidence, It’s a Love Story." His workshop focused on high-impact, inclusive teaching practices that empower all students to flourish and succeed—core values for Rise MAT. Gary’s practical strategies and research-backed approach resonated deeply with our staff, providing tools to support every student effectively.
Lunch was served in collaboration with Relish School Food, with the usual kitchen staff who work so hard daily for our pupils providing the meal. Their efforts ensured that everyone was fueled for an energetic day. As well as informative seminars, staff enjoyed an interactive experience with a friendship bracelet-making station and a karaoke room.
A special thank-you goes out to the central team, including Interim CEO Dave Ellison-Lee, Interim Director of Education Jo Westaby, and Deputy Director’s of Education Fran Ward and John Keech, who all worked tirelessly to make this event both inspiring and seamless. Additionally, we’d like to recognise the guest speakers from within our own schools, who thoughtfully prepared sessions and gave their time to share valuable insights with their colleagues. Their contributions added so much to the day’s success.
Interim CEO, Dave Ellison-Lee, expressed, "We wanted this Inset Day to be something truly special—a chance for our staff to connect, relax, and celebrate the incredible work they do every day. The Taylor Swift theme was all about bringing some joy and creativity into our professional lives, and it was wonderful to see everyone embracing the spirit of the day with such enthusiasm."
With the success of this day, plans are already underway for our upcoming Support Staff event, which promises another memorable theme! We look forward to carrying this positive energy forward, as we continue to support our students—and one another—to flourish and succeed.
